Are You Down With SPP?
Customers have picked out the perfect gift and arranged the perfect romantic evening, but planning can't guarantee their special day won't end in a broken heart for them.
"All of those romantic souls out there probably spend a lot of time and consideration finding the perfect gift for their sweetie," says agent Greg Kramer, from Langhorne, Pennsylvania "But if those expensive items aren't properly protected, it can really shoot an arrow through your heart."
According to the Insurance Information Institute, consumers spent an estimated $17 billion on their spouse's birthday gifts last year. If they've selected a diamond earrings or other expensive jewelry for their main squeeze, agencies can highlight the following safety and protection tips:
In the event that someone snags your sweetheart's expensive gifts, a Homeowners, Condominium, Manufactured Homeowners or Renters policy can provide actual cash value protection by adding the Scheduled Personal Property (SPP) endorsement to your property protection.
- SPP coverage provides additional protection against loss or damage to special treasures. It is protection not typically provided with standard property coverage.
- SPP benefits typically include: no deductibles to meet, coverage for lost or damaged items, coverage for an array of valuable personal property, such as jewelry, furs, silverware and antiques.
- Kramer Insurance Center also offers an option to increase jewelry coverage over and above what is provided by one of the above policies when an endorsement for valuable jewelry items is selected. An endorsement is an extension to the basic jewelry protection provided by our property protection policies.
"A significant benefit to having SPP coverage is that it offers all-risk protection, which means customers are insured for all different types of perils, including loss of the stone, a chip in the diamond, misplacing the item, and so on," says Kramer.
SPP coverage is not limited to jewelry. Valuables such as cameras, musical instruments, fine art, sports equipment, stamp or coin collections, tools and furs are just some of the items that people insure through the SPP coverage option.
